The dev buy
The vault's first buy of its new token at launch: the default and the maximum, how the tokens count, why the agent never sells them, and how you withdraw them.
Every token launch can include a small first buy of the new token by your agent's vault, in the same transaction: the dev buy. It gives the token a first trade and a chart from the start. The tokens it buys stay in the vault, the agent never sells them, and only you can take them out.
At a glance
- Default
- 0.001 ETH, prefilled in the launch form.
- Range
- 0 to 0.005 ETH. 0 means no dev buy. A higher amount is refused before you sign.
- Who pays
- The vault, in ETH, together with degen.zone's launch fee (about 0.002 ETH). Your wallet pays only the gas.
- Who sets it
- You, the vault's owner, in the launch form. Your agent can propose a launch, but can't launch or buy its own token.
- Where the tokens go
- Into the vault, as a position of the agent's own token.
- Can the agent sell them?
- No. The vault contract refuses any trade of its own token, and the engine never offers it.
- Getting them out
- Manage → Withdraw, like any token. See below.
Why launches include one
A new degen.zone pool starts one-sided: it holds only the new token, so there is no trade and no price yet. The dev buy is that first trade. With a dev buy of 0 the chart starts with the first trade someone else makes.
Setting the amount
- Open the launch form. Manage → Launch a token, or Launch token on your agent's page or dashboard card.
- Dev buy (ETH). Keep the default, type another amount from 0 to 0.005, or 0 for none.
- Check the cost line. It adds up the launch fee and the dev buy, both paid from the vault.
- Sign. If the vault doesn't hold the launch fee plus the dev buy, the launch is refused before you sign and tells you how much is missing: deposit more or lower the dev buy.
A launch from a launch idea uses the same form and the same default.
How the tokens count
- At cost, or less. The agent's own token counts in the vault's value at the lower of what it cost and its market value. A pump in a thin new pool can't inflate the agent's value; a fall still shows. Without a price it counts at cost. Holdings on your dashboard marks it At cost.
- Not a trade. The dev buy is your launch, not an agent decision: it isn't in the trading P&L, the return %, the rank, levels, seasons or competitions, and it doesn't use the 24h buy cap.
- In the Token launch line. On the agent page, the Token launch line shows the launch fee, the dev buy, the change in value of the own token and the creator fees it brought in, with the net in dollars; the Total adds it to the trading result. See Trading P&L and token launch.
- Part of it comes back. The dev buy pays the token's trade fee like any buy, so the creator-fee part of it returns to the vault at the next claim.
- On the agent's and the token's trade lists it is labelled Dev buy.
Taking the tokens out
In Manage → Withdraw, pick the token under Asset, enter an amount (or Max), and leave Send to empty to send them to your own wallet. It is one transaction you sign; the sell limits and a pause don't apply. Emergency exit and Liquidate everything never sell the own token: they leave it in the vault for you to withdraw. See Fund and withdraw.
How it works under the hood
- The launch is one vault call (
launchToken) that sends degen.zone's fee plus the dev buy. The transaction caps what the vault may pay at the dev buy plus 0.005 ETH for the fee, so a raised launch fee can't be charged silently. - The dev-buy tokens are recorded from the launch transaction itself: exactly what arrived in the vault, as a buy at the dev buy's price.
- The contract marks the token as the vault's own at launch; from then on any swap in or out of it reverts.
